2. INTRODUCTION
Homes is a free program that can do the following:
- set/create or delete the home-directories and optionally set the
home-attribute in the NDS for a set of users. The set of users can be a
NDS-context, group or template, or a "text" file.
- set/clear the default server attribute.
MassUser is a licensed version of the program, does everything Homes does with
the following additional functies.
- create/delete/update user objects and/or Groupwise Accounts
- copy/move home directories.
- find obsolete directories.
- create an export (backup).
- create NT4-domain users if you have Novell's NDS Authentication services
installed.
- create a user depent directory (other than the homedirectory)
- It can also be started with commandline parameters for batch
processing.
and more.
The manual will give all the options Homes and MassUser have. If an option is
only available in MassUser then there will be a remark about that.

There
are 4 system tabs:
- Settings here you can make the different settings.
- Logging The program will write status information to this page.
- Error Log This page is under devellopment, the program will write all the
errors also to this page
- Setup Here you can set some enviroment settings.
The settings tab contains 3 zones:
- At the top you make a selection of users, and you can set which kind of
update you want to do. User object related, Home Directory related and/or Extra
Directory.
- Settings area in the middle
- Run / test run. (at the bottom)
Homes only has the Home Directory option, the others are disabled.
There
are a few main-tab pages. In Homes.exe there are three main pages:
-

Creating/updating/deleting

|
-
Filter.
|
Add
some filter to the selection, to narrow down the selection.
|
MassUser has some extra main tab-pages:
-
User
|
Create,update
delete user and optional Groupwise accounts. Also support for apple and posix
user accounts
|
-
Extra Directory.
|

|
-

|
Directory
Only information, template editing and other functions.
|
Each main-tab has one or more sub-tab-pages depending on the settings on the
general tab of the main-tab. It is possible to use all main-tabs together, but
this can be quite complex. It is probably better to run the program several
times for the different actions.
Important
For any of this to work you will need the appropriate rights in NDS and to the
file-system. Also, Long Name support must be loaded on the volumes!
For users of version 2.14 or before.
All Userspace and DirectoryQuota settings have been moved to a new Tab-Page.
This tab will only show up if it is usefull to fill-in.

For users upgrading from versions before 3.00
The settingsfile for all setting has been changed, and isn't compatible with
the new version, you have to create a new settings file of files.
From
left to right:
- Exit, leave program
- Tree select, you can select another tree.
- Load setting from set-file.
- Save current setting to set-file.
- Select All attributes
- Select No attributes
- Select special
- Set Groupwise archive directory option in Extra directory (MassUser)
- Save logfile.
- Help/About
- Enable/Disable Hints
- Stop button.
In
the caption of the program window the current treename is displayed. To change
the current working tree you can use the Tree Selection button. The program
shows a popup window where you can select the tree. If you select a different
tree and you are not logged in into that tree, a login-window will appear.
This
button lets you load the settings like trustee values and selection criteria.
At startup the program will look for the file default.set in the
program-directory, and will read the values from the section default.
The
button lets you save the current settings like trustee values and selection
criteria. At startup the program will look for the file default.set in the
program-directory, and will read the values from the file. If you want to
restore the program-defaults, just delete the file default.set. This option is
also very useful in combination with start-parameters for a batch process.
This
button is used in MassUser, where you can select all attributes of a
template/csv file or clear attributes tab.

This

template/csv file or clear attributes tab.
This
button is available on the extra-directory tab, it will set the corrent values
for prefix, suffix and attribute name for a "Groupwise archive directory".
The
program writes its logging information into the log-window. It may be useful to
save the log information for later documentation or analyse in combination with
"do test run". The file is saved as a RTF-file.
Help
is still under development. In the end all information in this documentation
will be available as context sensative help. New files/downoloads will become
available in the future.
On the About page are three links: Forum, Email and Web-site.
- The forums link will take you to the HBWare web forums in your default
browser.
- The email link will try to start a new email to the programmer.
- The web link will take you to the HBWare website.
At
the moment some options do have a hint-text attached, this is still under
development. New Hint-files will become available. If the button is down, the
program will show the hints.
You
can use this button to stop the current lookup of users or the processing of
user selection.
If
this option is checked (default), the program runs in a "test-mode". The
program does everything except actually creating/modifying anything, so in the
log window you can see what the program would have done. The program will
not try to login into the servers!
After every "run" the program will select "Do test run" again, to prevent
accedents.
