creating home dirs - 2003/10/08 15:06 Ok, here is my situation. I have a server with a volume (Users), i want to move that volume to a much larger NSS volume on a SAN. I can move the data with no problem, but then I have to go back and update my user objects "Home_Directory" attributes.
I have been testing the Homes2.18 program, but when it searches all of my context it gets all users regardless if I want them to have a directory on this server or not. Is there a way to set filters so it only sees users who have an existing directory on my server?

I don't want it to affect all servers because some users have home directories on another server. I only want specific users, which are scattered through out my tree, to be affected?

Thanks

Filtering on server. - 2003/10/08 16:13 Brad,

This option is not yet available in the program, if you have a day (or maybe two) I can add the option to the program if you wish.

Filtering - 2003/10/08 17:12 Brad,

Homes 2.19 beta 3 does now include a filter option. Is this what you need?

I can't test is fully, I only have one server avaiable at the moment.
Please do test it first.

How to use:
On the Homedirectory tab, there is an extra option "Add Filter". If you check that, a new tab will showup. On that tab you can select the filter "Only include.... in server", check that and you can select the server to compair.

testing... - 2003/10/08 17:45 Hans,
I tested the change. I'm not sure what it's supposed to do.
It didn't seem to do what I was looking for.
But here is the situation that I will have(I haven't done this yet).

I will have a volume called USERS that will be holding 1200 user
directories with all the data and rights in tact. But when I go look
at the user objects the "Home_Directory" Volume and Path attributes
will be blank.
What I would like is for the software to be able to read the volume, look
at a folder and say, folder XXX belongs to user XXX, so let me set his
home directory to this spot (folder XXX).

Is that possible?
Thanks!

match subdires with user accounts - 2003/10/09 01:58 Brad,

Sorry I though that the home-dirs was still in place, that's the filter I build.

Is it acceptable that the program will search for all users in the context without a Home-directory and that in combination "Do not create Homedirectory" will give the result.

The other way: lookup all the "homedirectories" and match that with users in the NDS could be done, only if all user account are unique otherwise the matching will be a problem. Secondly: are there homedirectory names with a ~1 or ~2 in the search, these will not match.
This rountine there almost in HomesPlus version, so I will build it in that version (it not free, its only 25 Euro (around $28) for any number of users, and 5 trees)

Can you tell me what you want?

Hans
