I do have a problem updating existing GW-accounts in gw 6.5 with the SMTP alias. If I create the gw-account together with the smtp-alias everything works fine.

Is this you for an acceptable solution for the short term?

updating the SMTP alias during user creation is enough for the time. We need this first to create a lot of students.
