Using Homes to create GroupWise Archive folders. - 2004/03/09 10:42 First off... I would like to say I have been very impressed with homes. I have been working on a simple application to do this type of thing for a little while. Well, until I came across Homes.

We are currently running some test with Homes in our lab environment to see if it will help us move our user home data. These tests have been great and it will save so much time when moving or creating the home directories (specially with a limited support staff that we have).

However, a bigger problem we have is that we are moving the users GroupWise Archives from their local workstations to the network. So we require to create and assign rights and space restrictions (in the same fashion as a home folder) but to their Archive folder.

We already use a tool to extract a CSV/TXT file that contains their username and context (.user.hq.tree) and their GroupWise FID. Can we use this text file to have homes create directories based on this three digit FID (such as "ofFIDarc" since GroupWise will look for a specific directory based on their unique FID. So if my FID was "7G4" the directory would need to be "of7g4arc").

Now we could append the entry in the CSV file to add the "of" in front of the FID and add the "arc" at the end. However, I am sure that we are not the only ones in the position of having user home folders and email archives in different areas and this could be a feature others will use.

Let me know if you think of a way we could do this with the current product or if it will just not work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
MarcusJ

PS.. do you offer a bundle that includes all your software? or do we need to purchase each one separately?

Groupwsie archive directory. - 2004/03/09 12:19 I don't think it is a big problem to create this function.

I will create an option for creating extra directory stucture's based on some user defined definitions.

"fixed path"+ an (string)attribute of the user object with a prefix/suffix.

Example:
vol:some pathsome sub path
<prefix>cn<suffix>
<prefix>NGW: Fle ID<suffix>

In your case <prefix> is empty, <suffix> is arc and the NGW: File ID contains the groupwise file id.

the rights and directory attributes and directory space options of homes.

I will create this option in the homesplus version, I just wanted to release a new version of HomesPlus, but I will add this function too. I need a few days to create the option.

In a future version I will add an copy/move option for this directory structure. I will also add an option for automatically add an GW archive directory under the homedirectory.

Re: Using Homes to create GroupWise Archive folders. - 2004/03/12 12:09 Tested the Beta and it worked great! I am sure there are other Netware Admins that could really use this functionality!

Just to let you know we completed a few tests using our two lab environments and were successful every time in using the application to create home folders and also GroupWise archive folders on two different servers along with a successful test creating them within our SAN.

Here's the details (in case you wanted them):
-Test environments contain 20-50 users in each
-Running a pure NW6.5 in one lab and a mixed NW5.1 and NW6.5 in the other
-Running eDirectory 8.73

Thanks Hans!

Re: Using Homes to create GroupWise Archive folders. - 2004/03/13 14:57 The only other item that could be of use is a cleanup option for the secondary folders.

Secondary directory functions - 2004/03/13 15:38 In the next version all functions that can be done on Homedirectories will be added to the secondary directory. (if possible/usefull)

At the moment I'm working on one of the other programs, so I think it will be a month or so before I can update the program.
